Volunteer Application!

Updated: Jul 15, 2021

Well, folks...it's that time again. We are opening up our new and improved volunteer application.

Couple things that you need to know, some new, some not new but need repeating:

  1. Anybody age18 and over can volunteer

  2. Obviously, you don't need a college degree in line management, but we are looking for some people with skills or experience

  3. Even if you bought a badge, you absolutely can still volunteer to lend a hand. HOWEVER! If you've bought a badge and ticket to every event and all the Meet & Greets and intend to see all the panels...weeelll....it's probably not a great idea to volunteer as well

  4. Pay attention to the application. Last time, we had over a hundred applicants for about half as many spaces. People that half-assed it or left giant blanks got moved to the bottom of the pile.

  5. I'm SURE that most of you don't need to hear it, but this isn't just a way for you to get into a con for free; this is a responsibility like any other. There is too much going on and too many moving parts for us to have to be chasing people down or begging people to do their job.

  6. If you were chosen in 2019/20, that does not automatically guarantee you a spot, so YES, you need to reapply. As those of you who were around in 2019/20 know, we had to scrap almost everything and rebuild from the ground up and start all over again and that includes our volunteer pool. So if you 2019/20 folk want to be 2022 folk you need to reapply!

  7. If chosen, you will need to sign an NDA and agree to the terms set out in the volunteer handbook. It's nothing unreasonable. It all just boils down to the volunteer behaving responsibly and not putting our information out into the world.

  8. We know that we have a reputation for being a little silly on Twitter and screwing around, but when it comes to Expo time, we're all business

So, if I haven't managed to scare you off - I don't mean to and I'm not trying to; I just feel like you should know that we have real, honest expectations of our volunteers and I don't want anybody to be all, "EFF THIS!" when it comes to get rolling and we're all grown up and serious like - then apply away!

Depending on the number of people interested, we’ll send out second round applications to those who are most compatible with EDE so that we can get a better idea of where you’d be the best fit, and we'll likely want to "meet" you face to face through Zoom or Skype or whatever floats your boat

To get an look at what we’re looking for and to get information on how you can help, be sure to take a look at our Volunteer FAQ as well as the job descriptions pages. It probably has all the answers you're looking for.

If you think you're ready to apply, you can find the application here:
